Welcome to ConceALD.com - your path to legal concealed carry in Kentucky.
While Open Carry is legal in Kentucky, and does not require a permit, there are numerous reasons why it is preferable to carry concealed.
  • For a start, it keeps the Bad Guys guessing. Is he carrying or isn't he? Do I want to take that chance?
  • Open Carry can make you a target for a "gun grab" by a Bad Guy.
  • Some people find firearms unnerving. They can't be scared of your gun if they don't know you're carrying it.
  • Some people are so anti-gun that they will call the authorities with fabricated stories just to get you into trouble. Again, they cannot do that if they don't know you're carrying.
But why carry in the first place? This is best answered by any number of the many clichés used by gun-rights advocates. One of my favorites is this:
"When seconds count, the police are just minutes away."

But even that is an oversimplification. Did you know that it is a "fundamental principle of American law that a government and its agents are under no general duty to provide public services, such as police protection, to any individual citizen." [Warren v. District of Columbia, 444 A.2d 1 (D.C. Ct. of Ap., 1981)]. Check out this link for this and other truly disturbing case histories.

The decision to carry a deadly weapon is a very personal one, and should not be taken lightly. You should not carry a weapon if you are not prepared to use it, as you would just be arming your assailant. You should also be aware of the legal implications of carrying and using a deadly weapon. (The legal aspects are covered as part of the class.)
